The report mentions no “NO CIVACS” or Collateral Damage. But what about the livelihood of those Afghan Civilians?

Forgive me, I forgot we are a Christian Nation that posses “Moral Authority” (American Exceptionalism) and can NOT be burdened with such issues as the welfare (or even life) of civilians in a foreign land (sovereign that it is), when our National Security is at risk.

Never mind it is done in a war decreed by Executive Order and not a Declaration of War by Congress. In other words… an UN-Constitutional War for you Neocon Tea Partiers.

Interesting to note also, that we like to misquote Ahmadinejad on threatening to “Wipe Israel Off The Map”, while we Really Do wipe folks Off The Map. Actually, today Nobody does it better than U.S..

25 Tons of Bombs Wipe Afghan Town Off Map [Updated]

An American-led military unit pulverized an Afghan village in Kandahar’s Arghandab River Valley in October, after it became overrun with Taliban insurgents. It’s hard to understand how turning an entire village into dust fits into America’s counterinsurgency strategy — which supposedly prizes the local people’s loyalty above all else.

But it’s the latest indication that Gen. David Petraeus, the counterinsurgency icon, is prosecuting a frustrating war with surprising levels of violence. Some observers already fear a backlash brewing in the area.

Paula Broadwell, a West Point graduate and Petraeus biographer, described the destruction of Tarok Kolache in a guest post for Tom Ricks’ Foreign Policy blog. Or, at least, she described its aftermath: Nothing remains of Tarok Kolache after Lt. Col. David Flynn, commander of Combined Joint Task Force 1-320th, made a fateful decision in October.

His men had come under relentless assault from homemade bombs emanating from the village, where a Taliban “intimidation campaign [chased] the villagers out” to create a staging ground for attacking the task force. With multiple U.S. amputations the result of the Taliban hold over Tarok Kolache, Flynn’s men were “terrified to go back into the pomegranate orchards to continue clearing [the area]; it seemed like certain death.”

After two failed attempts at clearing the village resulted in U.S and Afghan casualties, Flynn’s response was to take the village out. He ordered a mine-clearing line charge, using rocket-propelled explosives to create a path into the center of Tarok Kolache.

And that was for starters, Broadwell writes. Airstrikes from A-10s and B-1s combined with powerful ground-launched rockets on Oct. 6 to batter the village with “49,200 lbs. of ordnance” — which she writes, resulted in “NO CIVCAS,” meaning no civilians dead.

At 5pm EST Friday 22nd October 2010 Wikileaks released the largest classified military leak in history. The 391,832 reports (The Iraq War Logs), document the war and occupation in Iraq, from 1st January 2004 to 31st December 2009 (except for the months of May 2004 and March 2009) as told by soldiers in the United States Army. Each is a SIGACT or Significant Action in the war. They detail events as seen and heard by the US military troops on the ground in Iraq and are the first real glimpse into the secret history of the war that the United States government has been privy to throughout.

The reports detail 109,032 deaths in Iraq, comprised of 66,081 civilians; 23,984 enemy (those labeled as insurgents); 15,196 host nation (Iraqi government forces) and 3,771 friendly (coalition forces). The majority of the deaths (66,000, over 60%) of these are civilian deaths.That is 31 civilians dying every day during the six year period. For comparison, the Afghan War Diaries, previously released by Wikileaks, covering the same period, detail the deaths of some 20,000 people. Iraq during the same period, was five times as lethal with equivalent population size.

UN Special Rapporteur Philip Alston Responds to US Defense of Drone Attacks’ Legality

The Obama administration has publicly defended the legality of drone attacks for the first time. State Department legal adviser Harold Koh said last week the use of drones in the fight against al-Qaeda was both legal and necessary. Koh’s comments come six months after Philip Alston, the United Nations’ Special Rapporteur on Extrajudicial, Summary or Arbitrary Executions, said that the strikes “might violate international humanitarian law and international human rights law.” Alston joins us with his reaction to Koh’s response.
