The GOP Needs To Listen To Jan Schakowsky (D)

in Intervention

Our wars are privatized (not to mention illegal) and being escalated by “contractors” that leads to “blowback” on US.

But, thanks to some big anti-progressive voices (that air at 5pm ET), it is even more unlikely to have one side of the aisle support the other. (An exception being HR 1207 – no thanks to that 5pm voice.)

Maybe? Consider setting aside your disagreement on health-care (for a moment) and hear why Rep. Jan Schakowsky (she serves on the House Intelligence Committee) says war contractors can get away with murder in Iraq.

Schakowsky:

“We have seen these private hired-guns, mercenaries if you will, actually in situations that have jeopardized the mission of the United States, have put our own troops at risk, have killed private civilians…

“Really raising the question – Can these private companies, that don’t seem to be part of the chain of command, have the same kind of transparency or accountability as our military…

“Can they actually get away with murder?

“And, so far, the answer has been… Yes… in Nisour Square

Did you catch these comments?

Schakowsky:

“So when the President asks for a 30,000 military increase, troop increase, in Afghanistan, we’re talking at least that number of contractors too, which makes the mission much bigger. We don’t even count them when they get killed,”

Jeremy Scahill recently reported that Rep. Jan Schakowsky is preparing to introduce the SOS Act, which was originally introduced as a bill in 2007…

“In 2009, the U.S. government employed well over 20,000 armed private security contractors in Iraq and Afghanistan, and there is every indication that these figures will continue to rise in 2010,” Schakowsky wrote in a “Dear Colleage” letter asking for support for her Stop Outsourcing Security (SOS) Act. “These men and women are not part of the U.S. military or government. They do not wear the uniform of the United States, though their behavior has, on numerous occasions, severely damaged the credibility and security of our military and harmed our relationship with other governments.”RebelReports.com.
