Dennis Kucinich sits down with RussiaToday and expresses some thoughts on the situation in the Middle East.
Kucinich: (at the 6:58 mark)
“It’s really interesting, in all the discussions that we hear among diplomats, there’s very little attention paid to the basic human needs of the people of Afghanistan…
“The strategy is a strategy of a conqueror. That you take the land, you take the space. You nullify the position of any opposition. And then ya know, maybe worry about the people later on.
“No we really… If we’re really concerned about the people of Afghanistan, we’ll stop the war, we’ll negotiate a settlement, we’ll bring our troops home… If we’re really concerned about the people of Afghanistan…
“But if we’re concerned about Turkmenistan, Afghanistan, Pakistan, India pipeline… well maybe we’ll keep our troops around in Helmand Province and some other areas where they’ll serve that interest… but…
“I think we have a higher obligation as a nation which prides itself on dedication to democratic principles. We have to live that dedication and realize that our presence in Afghanistan is not serving the people of Afghanistan and it’s not serving the cause of the American people either”
