The Church I belong to is “The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints”. Our 179th Semi-Annual general Conference is this weekend. It will be broadcast over the internet and on Satellite a Cable TV. (broadcast schedule)

If you have ever had questions about what the Church teaches or believes… you can get it straight from the source.

I realize for many, it is more exhilarating to deal with second hand mis-information… However, the intellectually honest prefer to do their own research and get the facts from the source…

About General Conference

The 179th Annual General Conference of the Church will convene in the Conference Center in Salt Lake City on Saturday and Sunday, April 4-5, 2009. The Saturday general sessions will be held at 10:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m.; Sunday sessions will be held at 9:30 a.m. (which includes Music and the Spoken Word) and 2:00 p.m. The general priesthood meeting will be held in the Conference Center on Saturday, April 4, at 6:00 p.m.

The First Presidency invites all members of the Church to participate by attending, viewing, or listening via television, radio, satellite, or Internet transmission at www.lds.org. Messages of inspiration and guidance will be delivered by the First Presidency, members of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles, and other General Authorities and general officers of the Church.

Usual Sunday meetings on April 5 need not be held. In areas where only one Sunday session is broadcast, local leaders can either adjust meeting schedules or, where appropriate, rearrange the agenda of regularly scheduled meetings to permit members to listen to or watch conference proceedings.

I ask that even those of other denominations may include in their prayers a request for a peaceful weekend.

Many have taken issue with the “Mormons” because of our belief in the sanctity of the institution of “marriage”.

From “The Family: A Proclamation to the World“

We, the First Presidency and the Council of the Twelve Apostles of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, solemnly proclaim that marriage between a man and a woman is ordained of God and that the family is central to the Creator’s plan for the eternal destiny of His children.

I know of no fellow Church Members that have any “ill feelings” towards those that choose to have a homosexual relationship. Myself and friends believe that it is the individual’s right to choose.

One question that comes to mind is … Why “Civil Union” with all the same financial and social benefits of “Marriage” can not be adopted? What if under the US law “Civil Union” was equal to “Marriage” and offered as a solution?

If people then still claim it is a discrimination … I suggest that it is NOT about equal rights and it IS about destroying the “institution of marriage”.

Many times in these “times” we see a distortion of facts and views… “Right is Wrong and Wrong is Right”. This seems to be the case here and may be why the hatred exists. Again, I ask and pray that it may be a peaceful weekend in Salt Lake City, UT.
